| | Dear friends of the Visual Arts Section and the Section for the Literary Arts and Humanities
One hundred years ago the first Goetheanum burned down on New Year's Eve 1922 / 1923 caused by arson. With it went a unique synthesis of the arts in which the fine arts and the arts through a spiritual form a unity by a spiritual world view. The ideal of this building was to represent the spiritual reality, as it is described in anthroposophy, to be experienced by means of art and architecture.
Exhibitions on the first Goetheanum as a total work of art from November 18, 2022 to April 10, 2023 in partnership with the Rudolf Steiner Archive and the KunstSchauDepot of the Trigon Foundation By means of design drawings, study models, replicas, saved components, reconstruction drawings and models, the exhibitions would like to enable visitors to form a vivid idea of this unique building. The exhibits are located in various places in and around the present Goetheanum. The exhibition flyer lists the various exhibition sites, opening hours and the objects exhibited there.
The Building Impulse, Burning and Future of the first Goetheanum - Christmas Conference from 27th December 2022 to 1st January 2023 On 31 December 2022, New Year’s Eve, we will commemorate the fire that destroyed the Goetheanum a hundred years ago. At the 2022 Christmas Conference, which will be in three parts, we would like to look back to that momentous occurrence. From 27 to 30 December, we will focus on the immortal creative impulse that gave rise to the artistic forms of the First Goetheanum. The afternoon and evening of 30 December will be devoted to a commemorative event with representatives of the local public and political life. The fire itself with its historical and spiritual dimensions will be our central theme on 31 December. On New Year’s Day 2023, we shall look ahead to future impulses arising from the work of the Sections of the School of Spiritual Science. We would like to spend the New Year’s Night with you, with artistic and contemplative activities, commemorating and looking forward to the future.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Goetheanum on the occasion of the exhibitions and the Christmas Conference,
Yours, Christiane Haid
